KARA'S ACCIDENT

On April 19th, 2000 we received the call that is the horror of every parent.  Kara had been killed in a automobile accident by a drunk driver at 1:13 am.

Please know that I choose my words carefully and do not enjoy what I am about to tell you.  Kara died 8 weeks before her high school graduation  Although this was such a tremendous shock to all of us, we in our immediate family knew that although the drunk driver took her life it was the school  that had already taken her spirit.

Every child has their own learning style BUT the teaching style in our
schools does not allow for the way Kara and many children like her learn.
Kara was a kinesthetic learner. Kinesthetic learners learn by SIMULTANEOUSLY
hearing, seeing, and DOING. She needed to be taught in a way that enabled
her to retain the information and actually learn what was being taught. She
needed to be taught "KARA'S WAY".

Kara was labeled as learning disabled, when in fact, she was being
victimized by those who were TEACHING disabled, not necessarily by the
teacher's, but by the method by which the teacher's were mandated to teach
ALL students, without taking into consideration the various learning styles.
